Artificial polycrystalline diamond

Synthetic polycrystalline diamond (PCD) under a high temperature high pressure diamond powder solubilizing polymerization of polycrystalline material. In general, an integral circular piece made of cemented carbide is used, which is called a polycrystalline diamond composite sheet. According to the thickness of the diamond matrix, the composite sheet has different specifications such as 1.6 mm, 3.2 mm, and 4.8 mm. The thickness of the polycrystalline diamond is generally about 0.5 mm. At present, the diameter of domestically produced PCD has reached 19mm, while the largest composite sheet diameter of foreign companies such as GE has been achieved by 58mm, and De Beers has reached 74mm.
According to the needs of the production tool, the cutter heads of different sizes and angles can be cut by laser or wire cutting to make turning tools, boring tools, milling cutters and the like.
The hardness of PCD is lower than that of natural diamond (about HV6000), but the flexural strength is much higher than that of natural diamond. In addition, by adjusting the particle size and concentration of the diamond micropowder, the mechanical and physical properties of the PCD product are changed to meet the needs of different materials and different processing environments, providing a variety of options for tool users.
PCD tools are much more resistant to impact and shock than natural diamonds. Compared with cemented carbide, the hardness is 3-4 times higher; wear resistance and life is 50-100 times higher; cutting speed can be increased by 5-20 times; roughness can reach Ra0.05μm. High cutting efficiency and stable machining accuracy.
PCD same as natural diamond, is not suitable for machining of steel and cast iron. This tool is mainly used for processing non-ferrous metals and non-metallic materials, such as: aluminum , copper , zinc , gold, silver , platinum and their alloys, as well as ceramics, carbon fiber, rubber, plastics and so on. Another major feature of PCD is the processing of wood and stone.
PCD tools are particularly suitable for processing high-silicon aluminum alloys and are therefore widely used in the automotive, aerospace, electronics and marine industries.
